The short version
- The app has no accounts and no sign-up. Your favourites, bookmarks, reading progress and settings stay on your device.
- On Android, iPhone and iPad, the free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Personalised ads are only shown where the law allows or you agree.
- On those devices we use Google Firebase to fix crashes and to set how often ads appear (on Android also to count app use).
- On Mac, the app shows no ads and does not use Firebase.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- To remove the data on your device, uninstall the app. See Deleting your data.
1. Who we are
The app is made and published by ImranQureshi.com (Imran Qureshi), India — called “we” or “us” in this policy. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions about privacy: support@contactimran.com.
By using the app you also agree to our Terms and Conditions and, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement.
2. Data that stays on your device
The stories are stored inside the app. You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, location, contacts or photos. This data is stored only on your device, and we cannot see it:
- your favourite and bookmarked stories;
- the last story you read and how far you read;
- which stories you have unlocked;
- your app language, theme, text size and notification choices;
- whether you bought Pro, and your ad consent choice.
If you uninstall the app, this data is removed from your device. If you have turned on your device’s own backup (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone, iPad and Mac), your device may include this data in that backup, which belongs to your Google or Apple account; we cannot see it. The only data that leaves your device for us or our service providers is described in sections 4 to 7.
If you tap Share, your device’s own share menu opens with a short message and a link to the app, and you choose where it goes. If you rate the app, the rating window comes from Google or Apple, and we do not see who you are.
3. Notifications and widgets
Story notifications and reading reminders are scheduled on your device. They are not sent from our server, and we do not collect a notification token. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings. The home-screen and lock-screen widgets show stories from the app’s own content. They do not send data anywhere.
4. Ads and tracking
On Android, iPhone and iPad, the free version shows ads from Google AdMob: banner ads, full-screen ads (for example when the app opens or between stories), and rewarded ads. To show and count ads, Google may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland and other places where it is required): when you first open the app, a consent form from Google asks if ads may be personalised. Ads load only after this step. You can change your choice later in Settings → Privacy choices (this button appears only where the choice is required).
- iPhone and iPad: your advertising identifier (IDFA) is only used if you allow tracking when iOS asks. You can change this in your device’s Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device’s Settings → Privacy → Ads (the wording depends on your device).
- If you buy Pro, the app stops showing ads.
- Rewarded ads: you may choose to watch a video ad to unlock a story.
- Mac: the Mac app shows no ads and does not use Google Firebase.
To decide how often ads appear, the app downloads ad settings from Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) from time to time (normally once a day). This sends no personal data from the app, but Google sees your IP address when it answers.
More information: How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Legal basis (EU/UK): your consent for personalised ads; our legitimate interest in funding a free app with non-personalised ads.
5. Service providers
Legal basis (EU/UK) for usage statistics, crash reports and ad settings: our legitimate interest in a working app.
We use these companies to run the app. They process data under their own privacy policies. Apart from Apple, none of them is used by the Mac app:
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform | Ads and the ad consent form | Advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions, your consent choice |
| Google Analytics for Firebase (Android only) | App usage statistics (for example how many people open the app each day), so we can improve it | App opens, sessions, device model, operating system and app version, country, an app-instance ID, and the advertising ID where your settings allow it |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports, so we can fix bugs | Crash details, device model, operating system and app version, an installation ID |
| Google Firebase Cloud Firestore | Sends ad settings to the app | IP address |
| Apple and Google | App distribution, payments, ratings | See their own privacy policies |
Privacy policies: Google · Firebase · Apple.
We may also share data if the law requires it, or to protect our users or the app from fraud or abuse. We do not sell your personal data.
6. Purchases
Pro is a one-time purchase through Google Play or the Apple App Store. It unlocks all stories and removes ads. Google or Apple handle your payment; we never see your card or bank details. The app only learns whether you own Pro, so it can unlock it.
7. Contacting support
When you tap Contact Us, the app opens your email app with a message to us. To help us fix your problem, the message already contains the app name and version, your app and device language, your device model and system version, and whether you have Pro. You can read and change this text before you send it. On an iPhone or iPad with no Mail account set up, the app opens contactimran.com instead. We use it only to answer you. You can also write to us through contactimran.com. How we handle support messages, and how to have them deleted, is explained in the contactimran.com privacy notice.
Legal basis (EU/UK): our legitimate interest in answering your request.
8. How long data is kept
- Data on your device: until you uninstall the app.
- Crash reports: kept by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Usage statistics (Android): kept by Google Analytics for 2 months, then only as totals.
- Support messages: as explained in the contactimran.com privacy notice. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Ad data: kept by Google under its own policies.
9. Deleting your data
Data on your device: uninstall the app. This removes your favourites, bookmarks, reading progress and settings. There is no account to delete. A copy in your own Google or iCloud device backup is managed in your Google or Apple account settings.
Support messages: email support@contactimran.com with the subject “Delete my data”, from the address you wrote to us from. We reply within 3 business days and finish within 30 days.
Crash reports and usage statistics are linked only to random app or installation IDs (and, for usage statistics on Android, possibly your advertising ID), not to your name or email, so we cannot find them for one person. They are deleted automatically (see section 8).
Ads: reset or delete your advertising ID (see section 4). Data that Google holds is managed under its own policies.
Full steps, in English, Arabic, French, Indonesian, Turkish and Urdu: contactimran.com/delete-data.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- get a copy of your personal data;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- object to, or limit, how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for example in Settings → Privacy choices), without affecting what was done before;
- complain to your data protection authority.
California and other US states: we do not sell personal information for money. Ads may use your advertising ID, which some state laws call “sharing” for targeted advertising. You can opt out by deleting or resetting your advertising ID on Android, by not allowing tracking on iPhone and iPad, or, where shown, in Settings → Privacy choices. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
India: under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may contact our grievance contact, Imran Qureshi, at support@contactimran.com.
To use any right, email us. We answer within 30 days.
11. Where data is processed
We run the app from India. We do not run our own server for this app. Our service providers (Google and Apple) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the EU/UK, they use legal safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
12. Security
The app keeps your reading data on your device and does not send it to us. Data sent to our service providers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you and the authorities if the law requires it after a breach.
13. Children
The app is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live (up to 16 in some European countries), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child gave us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top. Please check this page from time to time. For important changes, we will also try to tell you in the app.
