The short version
- You can use the app without an account. Your location, prayer settings and your prayer and fasting trackers then stay on your phone.
- If you create an account, we keep your name, email and (if you turn it on) a backup of your app data on our server.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Personalised ads are only shown where the law allows or you agree.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or by email. See Delete your account.
1. Who we are
The app is made and published by ImranQureshi.com (Imran Qureshi), India — called “we” or “us” in this policy. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions about privacy: support@contactimran.com.
By using the app you also agree to our Terms and Conditions and, on iPhone, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement.
2. Data that stays on your phone
The app works out prayer times, the Qibla direction, the Hijri date and alarms on your phone. This data is stored only on your phone (and on your paired Apple Watch, if you use one), and we cannot see it:
- your location coordinates and saved cities;
- your prayer settings, alarms, sounds and adjustments;
- your prayer tracker and fasting tracker, including any notes you write;
- your app language and display choices.
The only exceptions are the cloud backup, which you choose to use (see section 4), and details you choose to send us in a support email (see section 9). If you uninstall the app, this data is removed from your phone.
3. Your account (optional)
You do not need an account to use the app. An account lets you back up and restore your data. You can sign up in one of these ways:
| Sign-up method | What we receive |
|---|---|
| Your name, email address and password. The password is stored only in hashed (scrambled) form; we cannot read it. | |
| Your name, email address and a Google account ID, through Google Firebase Authentication. | |
| Apple | Your name and email address (or the private relay email Apple gives you, if you choose “Hide My Email”), and a user identifier from Apple, through Google Firebase Authentication. |
| Your name, email address and a Facebook user ID. We ask Facebook only for your public profile and email. |
We also record which platform (Android or iPhone) you signed up on, when the account was created, and sign-in security data (such as failed sign-in attempts) to protect your account. To stop password guessing, our server also uses your IP address. It is kept only briefly in the server’s memory, never saved to disk, and never added to your account.
We use your account data to: run your account, keep you signed in, restore your backup, and send you account emails (a welcome email when you sign up, email verification, password reset codes, and, if you ask us by email to delete your account, a confirmation that it was closed). These emails are sent through Amazon Simple Email Service in the United States. We do not send newsletters or other marketing emails.
Legal basis (for users in the EU/UK): to provide the service you asked for (contract). The cloud backup has the same basis.
4. Cloud backup (optional)
If you are signed in and tap Backup Now, or turn on Auto Backup (a Pro feature), the app uploads one backup file to our server. It contains:
- your prayer and alarm settings;
- your prayer tracker and the cities and prayer times it saved;
- your fasting tracker, including any notes you wrote in it.
It does not contain your location coordinates. Each new backup replaces the old one. You can stop backups at any time by turning Auto Backup off or signing out.
5. Location
- With your permission, the app reads your location only while you are using it: for example when it opens, to check whether you are in a new city, and on the Qibla screen. It never reads your location in the background.
- On Android the app uses only your approximate location. On iPhone it asks for an accurate reading; you can turn Precise Location off for the app in iPhone Settings and it still works.
- Your coordinates are used on your phone. We do not send them to our server.
- To show your city name, the coordinates are passed to your phone’s built-in place-name service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android).
- If you search for a city by name, the text you type and your app language are sent to GeoNames to find matching cities.
- You can say no to location access and pick your city by hand. The app then works the same way.
6. Ads and tracking
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and count ads, Google may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland and other places where it is required): when you first open the app, a consent form from Google asks if ads may be personalised. Ads load only after this step. You can change your choice later in Settings → Privacy options (this button appears only where the choice is required).
- iPhone: your advertising identifier (IDFA) is only used if you allow tracking when iOS asks. You can change this in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Privacy → Ads (the wording depends on your phone).
- If you buy Pro, the app stops showing ads.
- Rewarded ads: you may choose to watch a video ad to unlock some Qibla compass designs for one hour.
We also use the Meta (Facebook) SDK to measure our ad campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, for example to count how many people installed the app after seeing our ad. It may send app events (such as installs, app opens and in-app purchases), device information and, where your phone settings allow it, your advertising ID to Meta. It does not send your prayer or tracker data or your GPS location.
More information: How Google uses information from apps that use its services · Meta Privacy Policy.
Legal basis (EU/UK): your consent for personalised ads; our legitimate interest in funding a free app with non-personalised ads and in measuring our advertising.
7. Service providers
Legal basis (EU/UK) for usage statistics, crash reports, app settings, notifications and protection against abuse: our legitimate interest in a working and secure app.
We use these companies to run the app. They process data for us under their own privacy policies:
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform | Ads and the ad consent form | Advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions, your consent choice |
| Meta Platforms (Facebook SDK) | Facebook sign-in; measuring our ads | Facebook user ID, name, email (sign-in only); app events, device information, advertising ID where allowed |
| Google Firebase Authentication | Google and Apple sign-in | Name, email, account ID, sign-in times |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | App usage statistics (for example how many people open the app each day), so we can improve it | App opens, sessions, screens used, device model, operating system and app version, country, an app-instance ID, and the advertising ID where your settings allow it |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports, so we can fix bugs | Crash details, device model, operating system and app version, an installation ID |
| Google Firebase Cloud Firestore and Cloud Messaging | App settings we send to the app (for example Hijri date corrections); notifications from us | An installation ID and messaging token; IP address |
| Contabo GmbH (Germany) | Hosts our server and its database | Account data and backup files |
| Amazon Web Services (Frankfurt, Germany) | Encrypted copies of our database (server backups) | Account data and backup files |
| Amazon Simple Email Service (United States) | Sending account emails | Your email address and the email we send |
| Google Fonts | Downloads some of the app’s fonts | IP address and basic device information |
| GeoNames | City search | The city text you type and your app language |
| Apple and Google | App distribution, payments, place names | See their own privacy policies |
Privacy policies: Google · Firebase · Meta · Apple · Contabo · Amazon Web Services.
We only use providers that protect personal data at least as well as this policy requires. We may also share data if the law requires it, or to protect our users or the app from fraud or abuse. We do not sell your personal data.
8. Purchases
Pro (monthly, yearly or lifetime) is bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store. They handle your payment; we never see your card or bank details. The app only learns whether your purchase is active, so it can unlock Pro. The Meta SDK may record that a purchase happened (the product and price, never your payment details) to measure our ads.
9. Contacting support
When you tap Contact Us, the app opens your email app with a message to us. To help us fix your problem, the message already contains your app version, Pro status, app and phone language, your city and location type, phone model and system version, permission status, and your prayer and alarm settings. You can read and change this text before you send it. We use it only to answer you. You can also write to us through contactimran.com. How we handle support messages, and how to have them deleted, is explained in the contactimran.com privacy notice.
Legal basis (EU/UK): our legitimate interest in answering your request.
10. How long we keep data
- Account data and your backup file: until you delete your account. They are removed from our live database at once. Copies inside our server backups are deleted automatically within 30 days.
- Account emails sent through Amazon: only as long as Amazon needs to deliver them.
- Google and Apple sign-in record at Google Firebase: until you ask us to delete it (see section 11).
- Crash reports: kept by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Usage statistics: kept by Google Analytics for 2 months, then only as totals.
- Support messages: as explained in the contactimran.com privacy notice. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Ad and measurement data: kept by Google and Meta under their own policies.
11. Delete your account
In the app: open Settings, then your profile, tap Delete Account, and confirm. This deletes your account and your backup from our server.
Without the app: email support@contactimran.com with the subject “Delete my account”. Send it from the email address of your account, so we can find it. We reply within 3 business days, finish within 30 days, and email you when it is done. We never ask for an identity document.
Full steps, in English, Arabic, French, Indonesian, Turkish and Urdu: contactimran.com/delete-data.
What is deleted: your name, email, password, sign-in links (Google, Apple, Facebook) and your backup file.
Google and Apple sign-in: Google Firebase also keeps a basic sign-in record (name, email, account ID). Write to us and we delete it within 30 days of your request.
What is not deleted by us: data on your phone (uninstall the app to remove it), your purchase history at Google or Apple, and data that Google and Meta hold under their own policies. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — cancel it in Google Play or the App Store.
If you signed in with Facebook, you can also remove the app in Facebook under Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- get a copy of your personal data, or have it sent to another service;
- correct it (you can also change your name in the app);
- delete it;
- object to, or limit, how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for example in Settings → Privacy options), without affecting what was done before;
- complain to your data protection authority.
California and other US states: we do not sell personal information for money. Ads may use your advertising ID, which some state laws call “sharing” for targeted advertising. You can opt out by deleting or resetting your advertising ID on Android, by not allowing tracking on iPhone, or, where shown, in Settings → Privacy options. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
India: under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may contact our grievance contact, Imran Qureshi, at support@contactimran.com.
To use any right, email us. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm the request from your account’s email address.
13. Where your data is stored
Our server and its backups are in Germany. We run the app from India, so we access this data from India when we support you. Account emails are sent from the United States. Our service providers (Google, Meta, Apple) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the EU/UK, they use legal safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
14. Security
All data between the app and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in hashed form. Server backups kept at Amazon are encrypted. Access to the server is limited to us and protected by security keys and two-factor sign-in. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you and the authorities if the law requires it after a breach.
15. Children
The app is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live (up to 16 in some European countries), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. A child should not create an account. If you believe a child gave us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top. Please check this page from time to time. For important changes, we will also try to tell you in the app or by email.
